St. Francis of Assisi Parish will celebrate the feast of its patron saint – the saint of ecology and all creatures – with the annual Blessing of the Animals at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 30.

The event will be held on the front lawn of the church in Brant Beach, and all are welcome. (In the event of rain, the blessing will be moved across the parking lot to the St. Francis Community Center gym.)

In the month prior, from Friday, Sept. 1, through the day of the event, the parish, in partnership with Friends of Southern Ocean County Animal Shelter, is again collecting supplies to benefit local shelter pets.

“We have had such an amazing response to donations these past few years we want to continue and watch it grow,” said St. Francis Communications Coordinator Amanda DeFusco.

According to DeFusco, items such as new blankets and bedding, laundry detergent, baby wipes, litter, food, treats, toys and all other pet necessities can be dropped off in bins at the center’s front desk.
